About

An epic Canadian wilderness expedition rafting experience

Customize your expedition by combining exhilarating white-water rapids with extraordinary views of the Coast Mountain Range, remote wilderness camping, multi-course gourmet meals, and a multitude of activities over two or more days.

This rafting adventure is an ideal experience for corporate groups, families with teens, and groups of friends looking for an in-depth adventure wilderness experience while in the Sea-to-Sky area.

Based in Squamish, British Columbia, we are in the perfect location near Vancouver and Whistler to arrange transportation to your chosen starting point. Get your energy up and adrenaline pumping while rafting on the Elaho and Squamish Rivers, hiking in the surrounding mountain range, and any other activities of your choice, then sit back, relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the local area as you settle in at camp in the wilderness under the stars and dig into a delicious meal.

To maximize your experience in BC’s wilderness, group sizes are limited.

We’ve run large trips with Canadian Outback Rafting many times for our clients and staff. Every time they are amazing and deliver an exceptional experience. Graham and his team are real pros at what they do. For fun or business, I’d highly recommend a trip with Canadian Outback to anyone!

Sample Itinerary

Day One
Begin your adventure with a scenic helicopter flight showcasing the stunning views of the Tantalus Mountain range and travel deep into the Elaho-Squamish Valley. After landing, hop on your raft to challenge the exhilarating rapids of the Elaho River, the same route conquered by those participating on our popular Wet & Wild Elaho Exhilarator white water rafting trip. Our talented team of professional river guides will teach you the skills necessary to maneuver through these exciting Class 3-4 rapids including the challenging “Devil’s Elbow” section, used for Mark Burnett’s world famous Eco-Challenge Adventure Race.

Along with some of North America’s most exhilarating rapids, your river journey will take you through approximately 20 kilometers of British Columbia’s most inspiring wilderness. Take time to appreciate your surroundings and enjoy the world-class scenery including old growth forests, towering glaciers, and stunning waterfalls that cascade hundreds of feet toward the river.

At the end of the Elaho Exhilarator route, we’ll continue our journey for a few more miles down the river until we reach our remote wilderness camp area. All your supplies for the overnighter will be packed tightly on our rafts. As you climb off the rafts and onto the sandy beach, you’ll be greeted by smiling camp staff with a filling spread of hors d’oeuvres. While you change into your camp attire, your guides will prepare you a delicious three course meal. Then all you’ve got to do is relax by the fire and absorb the stunning views of the region. As the night ends, the expression “getting away from it all” will come to mind as millions of stars light up the sky! For big city folk, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Day Two
Awake to the sound of the river, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a delicious breakfast. Your second day is where your imagination can run free. Talk to us about innovative and exciting team-building ideas and activities to explore the local area. Previous groups have opted for a jam-packed day of team-building on the island, hiking nearby mountain ridges, and sporting activities like mountain biking and ATVing.

Day Three
Your last river day will be spent floating down the calm waters of the Squamish River, a much more gentle and serene river. The spectacular sights this river valley has to offer will allow you to enjoy old growth forests, glaciers, dormant volcanoes, waterfalls, and a wide variety of wildlife, scenery that you’ll see in very few other regions. Depending on water levels, you may have the chance to swim through rapids, and showcase your sense of balance in some of your guide’s amusing challenges.

Following your exciting rafting trip we’ll take you on a short bus ride to our breathtaking rafting resort in the Squamish Valley. You’ll be able to change back into your own clothes, hang out and enjoy the stunning glacial views, challenge your fellow paddlers to a volleyball game and experience true Canadian Wilderness. Finish your journey at the Sea-to-Sky Gondola, where you can relax with your family and friends in the beautiful sunshine, hike one of the dozens of trails, take in the sights from the viewing platforms and suspension bridge, and enjoy a night-cap while admiring the sunset on the Summit Lodge patio.

We had an unforgettable rafting and outdoor experience under the lead of Matt and team. We opted to fly in by helicopters which really adds to the experience! Camped on an island in the river and hiked the mountain ridges nearby. Matt is a legendary rafting guide and excellent chef. Ask for the curry! Matt and team, thanks for an unforgettable experience!

Everything You Need To Know

How long is the trip?

Our custom multi-day expeditions vary in length. Some of our guests want to spend 2 night away, sometimes more. Let us know what you want your trip duration to be and we’ll plan the rest!

How hard is the trip? What skills do I need to participate?

We accommodate all skill levels on our Elaho-Squamish Expedition, from first-time beginners to frequent rafters. From thirteen to mid-eighties, people of all ages participate on the Elaho-Squamish Expedition. If you have a keen sense of adventure then you likely have all the skills necessary to enjoy yourself. If you have any doubts, please contact us to discuss any concerns.

What are the restrictions?

To raft the Elaho you must be a minimum of 13 years old and at least 90 lbs (40 kg). You do not need any previous experience to raft and enjoy the Elaho.

What will we be eating? What if I have dietary restrictions?

On our multi-day expeditions we set a high standard when it comes to meal planning and preparation to deliver a multi-course gourmet dinner after an exhilarating rafting journey and a scrumptious breakfast the next morning. If you have special dietary requirements or allergies, just let us know and we will make sure to plan accordingly.

Where do we stay or sleep?

All our expeditions are camping adventures. Typically, camping gear is not provided. We suggest you bring a tent, sleeping mattress and sleeping bag. If you don’t have your own, we have camping gear available for rental based on availability.

What about a toilet?

We setup a toilet and sanitation station in a very discreet and private location, well away from the camp and with a stunning view.

Is there time for hiking, photography and relaxing?

On our 2 Day Elaho Expedition we spend the majority of our time on the river both on the first and second day. However, there is some time for short walks, photography and relaxing from camp.

Will we see any wildlife? What about bears?

On the Elaho, wildlife sightings vary along with the time of year. Indigenous species in the area include black bear, eagle, deer, beaver, seal and more. Each expedition abides with wildlife and “bear aware” practices, and is equipped with bear bangers, however bears of the area are not habituated and don’t associate us with food.

What are the bugs like?

The mosquito population on the Elaho-Squamish River varies according to temperature, rainfall, and wind. We generally see few pesky creatures; however, we may be unable to avoid them, and bug repellent is recommended at times.

What are the weather conditions like?

Our expeditions typically take place in June, July and August, which are generally the warmest times of the year, so be prepared for the best weather the region has to offer. However, there’s no guarantee against overcast weather or rain. The mountain weather environment is best described as highly variable.

What do I need to bring?

When you reserve your seat on the tour, we send you a confirmation message which contains a detailed packing list. But in short, all you need to provide is your camping and personal gear, alcoholic beverages depending on your personal preferences, and we provide the rest: river gear, safety gear, food and non-alcoholic beverages, kitchen and sanitation equipment.

Can I bring alcohol?

Yes, alcohol is allowed, in moderation, for the evening portion of this trip. If bringing beer, please buy cans. If bringing hard alcohol or wine, please present any glass bottles to your guide to store safely for the rafting portion of the trip.

What about insurance?

We recommend that you consider purchasing trip cancellation, medical and evacuation insurance, especially if travelling from outside of Canada.
